一次旧地重游 – A Familiar Place

2017年我们第一次来曼谷时，住在空讪区的一家民宿，所在的大楼 The River Condominium 就在湄南河畔。那时每次外出，都要搭乘大楼自家的小船横渡河面去对岸玩。今天我们特地坐上黄旗船来到空讪区对岸，重新走一遍当年的路线，也顺便看看那些我们曾常去的小饭店们。岁月带来了不少变化：港口附近的小摊贩不见了，一个熟悉的小饭店已经变成了按摩店，只有 Jack’s 酒吧依旧在那里，样子也还是当年的模样。

In 2017, on our first trip to Bangkok, we stayed at a AirBNB in the Krung Thon Buri area, in a building called The River Condominium right on the Chao Phraya River.

Back then, every time we went out, we had to take the building’s little private boat across the river to explore the other side. Today we took the yellow-flag boat back across to the same area, retracing the route we used to walk, and checking in on a few of the small restaurants we used to visit. Time has brought quite a few changes: the food stalls near the pier are gone, one familiar restaurant has turned into a massage shop, and only Jack’s Bar is still there—looking just the way it did back then.

午饭在附近一家不起眼的小店解决，只因为菜单上那道玉米沙拉勾起了我的兴趣，可惜入口平平，没有太多惊喜。饭后我们搭上蓝旗船晃回酒店附近，顺手买了一个新的行李箱，价格砍到了 1200 泰铢，看起来大概撑不了多久。下午回到酒店，某人选择在房间里偷得片刻安宁，我到楼下那家没有猫咪的小餐馆，点了一杯冰凉的芒果沙冰，坐在室外的位置，一边记录这一天的曼谷时光，一边看着眼前熙熙攘攘的人群。路过的人们说着不同的语言，其中俄语最为频繁。陌生的语言、熟悉的热闹、穿梭的旅人，享受这种盼望已久的曼谷慢时光。

We grabbed lunch at a modest little place nearby, simply because the corn salad on the menu caught my eye. Unfortunately, it turned out to be pretty average, nothing memorable. After eating, we hopped on the blue-flag boat and drifted back toward the hotel area, picking up a new suitcase along the way for 1,200 baht ($36.00)— it probably won’t last very long.

Back at the hotel in the afternoon, one of us chose to enjoy a bit of quiet in the room, while I headed downstairs to the small restaurant without the cats. I ordered a mango smoothie and sat outside, jotting down the day’s moments in Bangkok while watching the steady flow of people passing by. You could hear many languages, with Russian popping up most often. Unfamiliar words, familiar liveliness, travelers weaving through the street — enjoying this long-awaited slow Bangkok afternoon.

晚饭选在酒店附近一家名叫 Suda 的泰餐馆。原本想着再去吃 Jok 的店，结果他们周日休息，只好就在旁边挑了这家。所幸并没有让人失望，那道槟城咖喱鸡翅意外地好吃，咖喱的味道浓郁，是今晚的亮点。四个菜加两瓶啤酒，总共 816 泰铢，算是一次愉快又满足的临时之选。

For dinner we picked a Thai restaurant near the hotel called Suda. We had planned to go back to Jok’s place, but it turns out they’re closed on Sundays, so we settled for this one next door. Luckily it didn’t disappoint — the Penang curry chicken wings were unexpectedly delicious, rich and full of flavor, definitely the highlight of the meal. Four dishes and two beers came to 816 baht ($25.00), a satisfying and pleasantly surprising last-minute choice.
