The Northern Italy Trip

In May we’re heading off on a trip through northern Italy! We depart from SFO in late May arriving in Milan, where we’ll spend a couple of nights exploring the city and settling into the rhythm of Italian travel.

From Milan we’ll take a train north to Lake Como, staying in the beautiful town of Varenna. We’re planning to spend our time exploring the lakeside villages, taking ferries across the lake, long hikes, and soaking in the scenery that has made the area famous for centuries.

Next comes Cinque Terre, where we’ll stay in the little town of Manarola. This portion of the trip will focus on hiking between the coastal villages, enjoying the dramatic seaside views, trying local food and wine, and slowing down enough to experience village life along the beautiful coast.

After that we travel to Florence for several days of art, history, architecture, and Tuscan food. We’re especially looking forward to wandering the historic streets, visiting museums, climbing some of Florence’s famous towers and domes, and enjoying evenings in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

To wrap up the trip, we’ll spend one night in Madrid before flying home.

This trip combines many of the things we love most about travel: historic cities, local food, scenic landscapes, train journeys, small – town exploration, and plenty of time to simply sit at a cafe and watch the world go by.
